Vivo U20 Review: In September, Vivo launched the Vivo U10 smartphone in the Indian market to compete with Xiaomi and Realme. Like the Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5, the Vivo U10 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor. After the Vivo U10, the company launched the Vivo U20 in the market. The powerful Snapdragon 675 processor powers the Vivo U20 for speed and multitasking. We have tested the Vivo U20, so let us give you detailed information about the Vivo U20.

Vivo U20 design

The Vivo U20 is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and will come with an 18W dual-motor fast charger available in the retail package. The Vivo U20 smartphone runs Funtouch OS 9.2 based on Android Pie. This Vivo brand smartphone has a lot of malware installed.

The phone has apps like EasyShare, GameCenter, Gaana, Amazon, Hello, Dailyhunt, Opera, Facebook, WhatsApp, WPS Office. We would like to inform you that some of these apps send spam notifications. To quickly switch to FuntouchOS, you need to swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.

The Vivo U20 managed to grab our attention with its aggressive price and powerful processor. The Snapdragon 675 processor was first introduced in the Redmi Note 7 Pro and at that time, it was the most powerful processor in the sub-Rs 15,000 price segment. Now this chipset has appeared in Vivo U20.

The phone didn’t slow down when scrolling through the Vivo U20 UI or get stuck when multitasking between apps. We have the 6GB RAM variant of the Vivo U20 for review, so we didn’t encounter any issues while multitasking and switching between apps was smooth.

The fingerprint scanner on the back of the Vivo U20 and the face unlock feature on the smartphone unlock the phone quickly. The speaker of this Vivo branded smartphone is also not very loud. We tried playing PUBG Mobile on Vivo U20 and the game was set to High by default while graphics were set to HD and frame rate was set to High.

While playing the game with these settings, we did not encounter any issues and the game ran smoothly. Vivo U20 gets a little warm after 20 minutes of gaming. During this period, we found that battery consumption was 5 percent. The battery life of the Vivo U20 is quite good and this smartphone can easily last for a day and a half on a single charge.

The usage included an active WhatsApp account, playing PUBG Mobile, taking camera samples, using GPS for navigation, and at the end of the day, the Vivo U20 still had 45 percent battery left. In our HD video test, the Vivo U20 smartphone lasted 14 hours and 59 minutes.

It doesn’t take long to charge the phone’s 5000 mAh battery. The fast charger that comes with the phone charges the phone to 33 percent in half an hour and up to 67 percent in an hour. However, it takes about two hours to fully charge the Vivo U20.

Camera Vivo U20

Talking about the camera setup, there are three rear cameras on the back of the phone. There is a 16-megapixel primary camera sensor with a Sony IMX499 sensor, along with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 2-megapixel macro camera sensor.

There is a 16-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. The camera app is similar to what we have seen on other Vivo smartphones recently. It includes modes such as Night, Portrait, Panorama, Live Photo, Pro, AR Stickers and Slow Motion.

There is a quick HDR toggle and you can apply various filters before shooting. The camera app also provides separate buttons for the wide-angle and super macro cameras. Vivo U20 quickly locks focus and ensures perfect exposure. HDR is automatically enabled when shooting in bright areas.

The pictures taken with the Vivo U20 were good, but the detail wasn’t the best. Some grains are visible when the photo is enlarged. Although the wide-angle camera provides a wide field of view, there was slight distortion at the edges as the sensor was unable to capture detail.

Close-up shots taken with the Vivo U20 turned out better, with details captured well in photos taken with the smartphone. Not only that, but the natural depth of field was also visible in the subject and background. Edge detection was good in portrait shots and the Vivo U20 blurs the background correctly, but in this mode you don’t have the option to set the blur level.

The photos taken with the macro camera turned out good, but their resolution is 2 megapixels. The camera performance is not very good in low light. Photos taken with the Vivo U20 lacked detail and also showed some grain. Photos turned out bright when switching to night mode.

The quality of selfies taken indoors was below average, with grain visible in photos when zoomed in. Video recording is carried out in 4K resolution for the main camera and 1080p for the selfie camera. We found video stabilization to work when shooting during the day, but focusing speed could be better.

Vivo made a splash with the launch of the Vivo U10 in the sub-Rs 10,000 price segment and now the company has launched the Vivo U20 in India. This new smartphone has been launched with powerful hardware, a large battery and an aggressive price tag.

This Vivo-branded phone is not a perfect all-rounder. If you are thinking about buying Vivo U20 for gaming, this could be a good option. You Realme 5s AND redmi note 8 May also be considered.
